Compostable Dish Washing Sponge

Price:
$15.90

These 100% biodegradable, vegan and compostable Eco-Sponges made from Loofah replace soft plastic sponges for dish washing.

Loofah is the fruit of the species Luffa aegyptiaca and Luffa acutangula. It is cultivated and eaten as a vegetable, but the fully developed fruit is the source of the loofah scrubbing sponge which can be used in bathrooms and kitchens as a zero waste replacement for plastic sponges.

Includes one bundle of 3 sponges, enough for around 3-4 months of dish washing. The sponges are double layered for extra longevity and stitched with a cotton hanging loop.

How to use:

Rub the Sponge on your soap block or pump liquid dish soap on it and lather up dishes as usual. It will create a nice bubbly foam just like an ordinary sponge, but without creating micro plastics that wash down the drain.

Longevity:

For best longevity, rinse clean and squeeze dry after using, then place it in a dry spot where it can drain. If you leave it damp it will grow bacteria and mould, since it's made from natural plant fibre. We recommend replacing it every month with a fresh one. Comes with a pack of 3.

Notes:

You can sanitize the sponge by microwaving the damp sponge for 20 seconds or dipping in boiling water. Sanitizing and cleaning your sponge can help extend the life of it.

End of life:

Once you're ready to replace your sponge, compost the old one or bury it in the garden. It is completely biodegradable, made of natural plant fiber and doesn't contain any plastics or synthetics.

Multipurpose:

Take one of the sponges and use it exclusively for the body, it makes a great exfoliating body sponge.

Zero Waste MVMT was founded in early 2019 by Zac and Janelle. The idea to contribute to and promote this eco-friendly movement came to fruition after travelling abroad for almost a year. Their entire perspective on waste management and pollution changed after experiencing the detrimental effects on the environment first-hand. In less developed countries, they saw exactly what was happening to waste, it often contaminated beaches, gathered in “landfills” and even burned on the side of the road since there isn’t much in place for waste management facilities. This is something that is often overlooked in western countries. Garbage is brought to the street side, it is taken away and that is the end of it. Out of sight, out of mind. But the reality of it is, all this waste IS going somewhere, it’s collecting in landfills, contaminating waterways, ending up in our oceans and much more.

This is what sparked the idea for Zero Waste MVMT. They decided they HAD to do something positive to raise awareness and contribute to the movement. Their mission is to inspire people and encourage them to live a more sustainable lifestyle. They want to help by collectively reducing waste and making sustainable products accessible to everyone. Together, we can help our precious Mother Earth thrive for generations to come!

On top of promoting a low waste lifestyle, they are also helping to plant trees in areas of need to reverse the detrimental effects of deforestation. Zero Waste plants a tree with each and every purchase!
