Bamboo Charcoal filters are the green plastic free alternative to water filters like Brita: Thanks to the carbon adsorption qualities, they remove impurities from your tap water caused by chlorine and other chemicals and release back minerals such as magnesium an calcium to ensure your water tastes, looks and smells absolutely amazing.

For a true zero waste solution, once it's time to dispose of your bamboo filter, you can used it as dehumidifier for your cupboards and then you can either throw it in your home compost to remove odours or smash it up and use it as fertiliser to add vital nutrients to the soil. 

 

HOW TO USE BAMBOO CHARCOAL TO NATURALLY FILTER WATER

 

Ingredients:

100% bamboo charcoal, free from chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers.
Each pack will include 12 pieces (approx. 100gr) of bamboo charcoal.

 

Please note that bamboo charcoal does not adsorb pathogens, so we don't recommend using it to filter creek water.

We recommend to use three pieces of bamboo charcoal per litre of water.

  1. Rinse the bamboo under cold water
  2. Boil it for 5 minutes and let it dry in the sun. This will ensure a full sterilisation.
  3. Place your bamboo charcoal in your water bottle and fill it with tap water.
  4. Let it sit for one hour and drink it up!

We recommend sterilizing the bamboo once a week by repeating point 2.

Your charcoal bamboo filter should last around 3-4 weeks depending on the quality of your tap water and your consumption's level.

You'll know it's time to replace it once you won't see any more bubbles on its surface.

  • add them in your rice cooker to absorb impurities and increase the amount of water contained in the rice to give you tasty plump rice;

Bamboo charcoal has a ten times higher adsorptive power than other wooden charcoals (such as binchotan made from oak trees) thanks to its surface area of 300 square meter per gram and because it contains many mineral components such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and silicic acid you will be making your own mineral water!

Taketora is a special brand of Yamagishi Bamboo Inc, founded in 1894, to make and sell bamboo products. They are based in an area called Awa where the special Tiger Bamboo grows. 

The logo of Taketora is indeed a combination of bamboo leaves and a chinese character which means "tiger".

Nowadays, there are many cheap bamboo goods on the market but Taketora harvest bamboos in their local mountains and cut it down manually, not using any machinery.
